While millions of Americans watch their life savings evaporate, or their jobs disappear, there is a ray of hope. President and First Lady Obama enjoy hosting weekly cocktail parties.
No matter what you think about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, President Bush gave up golf until the wars end. He said that it was unseemly for the President to be seen playing while our troops are fighting and dying in far off places.
As President Obama supposedly understands the power of symbolism, it is an interesting choice to have weekly parties, during a time of war and economic duress.
